AI Visibility Checker: See If AI Recommends Your Business
Free tool · AI visibility checker
ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity and Google's AI Overviews name the businesses they can verify. This checker scores your business on the nine signals those engines look for before they name anyone, and tells you which one to fix first. Two minutes, nothing stored, nothing sent.
It is not a live scan of the AI engines. The live check, ten questions across four engines, is the second half of this page. I run it for you as a $150 AI visibility audit.
What the score is measuring
An AI answer is assembled in the moment. Google describes the mechanism for AI Overviews and AI Mode as query fan-out: the engine runs several searches around the question and reads what comes back before it writes. ChatGPT and Perplexity do a version of the same thing. What comes back is your third-party record, your profiles and your own pages, weighted by how much the engine trusts each source. The nine signals are the things that decide whether that search finds a business it can vouch for.
I weight the off-site signals ahead of the on-page ones on purpose. In my own tracking, thirty category questions about a real estate client with a well-built site produced zero mentions. The three regional brokerages with the deepest record of reviews, listings and press were named every time. My own site tells the same story: 115 answer-formatted posts with full schema and a domain rating of 0 drew 17 clicks in 90 days. Structure gets you read. The record gets you named.
How to check whether AI actually recommends you
The scorecard predicts. The live check measures. A single ask tells you nothing, because the same question gets a different answer on a different day, and the answer often changes with the engine. The method below is the one I use with clients, and the full walkthrough with the logging sheet is in how to check whether AI is recommending your business.
Checking Google AI Overviews specifically
AI Overviews do not appear on every search. Pew Research Center found them on 18% of Google searches in March 2025, and on 60% of searches that started with a question word. Ask your ten questions as questions, in a private window, with the location set to the city you serve, and note the sources the overview cites. Google's own documentation says a page only needs to be indexed and eligible for a snippet to be cited, with no extra technical requirement. If you are indexed and still absent, the gap is trust, and it shows up in the scorecard as signals one to five.
Search Console added a Generative AI report under Performance in 2026. It shows impressions and clicks from Google's AI features for your own site, which is the closest thing to an official AI Overview checker for the pages you own. It will not tell you who was named instead of you. The live check does.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is this AI visibility checker a live scan of ChatGPT?
No. It scores your business on the nine signals the AI engines use to decide who to name, which predicts your visibility without asking the engines. The live scan is the ten-question check described above, run three times across ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity and Google AI Mode. You can run it yourself in an afternoon, or I run it as the $150 AI visibility audit and bring the list of who was named instead of you.
Why does the checker weight reviews and listings above my website?
Because the engines name businesses they can verify from sources the business does not own. In my tracking, a well-built client site with a thin third-party record was named in none of 30 category answers. My own 115-post site at domain rating 0 drew 17 clicks in 90 days. Formatting gets a page read. Reviews, listings and mentions get a business named.
How often should I check my AI visibility?
Monthly, with the same ten questions and the same three runs, logged the same way. The record that gets you named builds over months, and a monthly rate is the only way to see whether it is working. Checking daily produces noise, and checking once produces a story you will believe for the wrong reasons.
